FAJKY Z ROŽŇAVY

     Clay Tobacco Pipes from Rožňava.
In this paper we present together 63 clay tobacco pipes and 5 metal closures of pipes from Rožňava, which is less known region in finding clay tobacco pipes. Evaluated a set of pipes comes from archaeological excavations on the Betliarska road (1 pipe) and Cintorínska street (5 pipes). In the first case research was implemented by Košice’s workplace of Archaeological Institute of Slovak Academy of Sciences in Nitra in 2006, and in the second case was research realised by archaeological company Triglav from Košice in 2013, during which they managed to document the private collection of clay pipes (57 pieces) and metal closures (5 pieces), collected from the nearby of Podrákošská street. There we had a large file whose assessment is the first step in a similar context of postmedieval archeology in Rožňava. It consists of ceramic pipes from 18th to 20th century, in which they dominated from the 19th century. According to the authors of brands and manufacturing stamps can be identified products from the workshops in Banská Štiavnica: Josef Freiman, Martin Hönig, Karol Kehrn, Karol Zachar, Mathias Rauch, Karol Takács; Nitra (Herman and Max Weiss); in Podrečany (Podret); Pápa (Samuel Boscovitz) and Debrecen in Hungary and Wiener Neustadt (Mathias Amstätter), Pernitz and Theresienfeld (Anton and Joseph Partsch, F. Netter) in Austria. In addition, we also identified patterns of Banská Štiavnica impersonators who cherished their products by “Schemnitz”-signs: F. Heller, W. Heller, L. Slezinger. We found pipes of other manufacturers (Adler, A. Steiner, P. Seiler), which are not yet known closer. Some pipes have been preserved in a very fragmented state and initially indicated only torsos of labels and stamps (eg. 40, Echt Steingut, Privilegirt, Glück Auf). Other pipes are not labeled, making it difficult dating and their assignment to a particular manufacturer. In some cases, it comes to folk products, products of local potters and ceramists.
